Muskegon River Fishing Report 2-9-2024
Had to get out before it cooled down again and test my luck fly fishing on the Muskegon River, downstream from Croton Dam. This access point is incredibly popular, and typically has any number of fisherman wading, fishing from shore, and boats, as it's a very popular boat launch. It's easy access means that you'll never fish alone. Which can be both good and bad, of course.
Fly Fishing Results
Fished the mid-morning period. It was sunny, but quite windy, making fly fishing nearly impossible. Drifted some streamers and nymphs through holes and around structure such as logs that I could get to with the wind, with no success. Speaking with other fishermen revealed that a couple of rainbow trout had been caught earlier in the morning. However, there was no fish activity seen during the time that I was there.
The Weather
The weather was great, but also miserable. 48 degrees and partly cloudy. Wind was 18 miles per hour, out of the southwest. Making casting nearly impossible. Humidity was 55% with dewpoint of 33 degrees, and pressure of 29.74. Beautiful day, other than the wind really.
It's been an incredibly mild winter-will probably get out a few more times before the calendar switches to spring.
Tight lines, everyone!
